Nigerian born former England player, John Fashanu,
today debunked rumor of the past that he did not choose to play for Nigeria,
while answering a question from Sport Analyst, Paul Bassey, during Optima Sport
World Cup preview on Nigerian local stations.
Fashanu, now a Sport Analyst said, “I came to
Nigeria for screening three times, during the set of Segun Odegbami, but I
wasn’t good enough”
While explaining why he couldn’t play for Nigeria,
he noted that the players around at that time were just too good for him to
enter the Eagles team; adding that England created football, but the Brazilians
improved the game and Nigeria abducted the Samba boys’ style.
“The truth
is, at that time I wasn’t good enough to play for Nigeria due to the players
Nigeria had at that period, but I was good enough for England” He added.
